Overview

NextClass is an e‑learning platform used by teachers colleges in Tanzania. It is reached through elearning.someless.top and through two Android apps, E‑learning Student Portal and E‑learning Tutor Portal.

The people whose information appears here are the students, tutors and administrators of the colleges that use the platform. Each college's records are kept separate from every other college's, and no college can see another's.

Accounts are created by a college, not by the person using them. A student or tutor does not sign up here. Their college registers them and gives them their sign in details.

Information We Collect

Date of birth, national identification (NIDA) number Optional, entered by the student

Notification token Issued by the Android app when notifications are allowed

What We Do Not Collect

  • No location of any kind.
  • No contacts, messages, call history or list of installed apps.
  • No advertising identifiers. There is no advertising in the apps.
  • No analytics or behaviour tracking, and no third party trackers.

How We Use Information

Information is used only to run the platform:

  • to sign a person in and to keep them signed in;
  • to show a student the tutors, subjects and notes that belong to their course;
  • to show a tutor the students who take the subjects they teach;
  • to deliver announcements from a college to its students and tutors;
  • to show a tutor how many times their notes have been opened;
  • to lock an account temporarily after repeated failed sign in attempts.

Information is not used for advertising, profiling or any purpose outside the platform.

App Permissions

  • Internet and network state: to reach the college's portal.
  • Notifications: to show announcements from the college. Android asks the first time, and declining leaves everything else working.
  • Camera: only when you choose to set a profile photograph, and only at that moment. The app never opens the camera on its own.

The apps display the same portal as the website. They do not read anything on the phone beyond what is described here.

Notes and Materials

Tutors publish notes as PDF files. Those files are stored on the platform's own server and are served only to a signed in student who takes that subject, or to the tutor who published them and their college's administrators.

The apps keep a copy of a note you have opened in the app's own private storage, so it opens again quickly and works without a connection. That copy is not visible to other apps, to the gallery or to a file manager, and it is deleted whenever anyone signs in, so a shared phone never shows one student another student's notes. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it also removes them.

Sharing and Processors

Personal information is not sold, rented or traded, and is not shared for advertising. Within the platform it is seen only by:

  • the person themselves;
  • the administrators of their own college;
  • the tutors who teach the subjects a student takes, and the students a tutor teaches. This covers names, email addresses, photographs and phone numbers where these have been provided.

Service providers we use

  • Google Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers notifications to the Android apps. It receives the notification token and the text of the announcement being sent. See Firebase's privacy information.

The database and the uploaded files are held on servers operated for this platform.

Security

  • All traffic is encrypted over HTTPS. The apps refuse to load anything over a plain connection.
  • Passwords are stored only as one‑way hashes.
  • Repeated failed sign in attempts lock an account temporarily.
  • Every request is checked against the college the signed in person belongs to, so one college's records cannot be reached from another's account.
  • Notes are streamed through a check that the reader is entitled to them, and their storage address is never exposed.

No system is perfect, and that is said plainly rather than promised away.

Retention and Deletion

Records are kept for as long as the college keeps the account. When a college removes a student, a tutor or an announcement, the record is deleted from the database, and any file belonging to it is deleted from storage.

Your Choices

  • See and correct your information: the profile and settings pages in your portal show what is held about you. Anything you added yourself can be changed or cleared there.
  • Optional details: the mobile number, date of birth and NIDA number are optional. You may leave them empty or clear them at any time.
  • Notifications: turn them off in the app's Android settings.
  • Deletion: because accounts belong to a college, ask your college office to remove yours.

Children

The platform is used by teachers colleges, whose students are adults. It is not directed at children, and accounts are not opened by individuals, only by a college for its own enrolled students and staff.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it and the new version appears at this same address.
